Summer Camps
Brier Bank Farm is again offering summer camps for the 2012 year! We had a great turnout last summer and held five weeks of camp. We have expanded our camps for 2012 to include more crafts, horse activities, and more riding time. During several weeks over the summer, we will be offering camps tailored for children who want to have fun learning about and riding horses. All of our camps will offer insight into the wonderful world of horses. Your child will get to have fun around some fantastic animals and people!
This year, two Illinois certified teachers will lead the camps. The camp curriculum will include not only riding and games on horseback but also many educational activities. Camp material will include: anatomy, horse care and safety, horse tack, vet and farrier care, costs of a horse, and much more.
The July 16-20 advanced camp is for those going into 7th grade or higher. This camp will have a more in depth focus on vet care, farrier work, different disciplines, horse training, etc. This camp will have guest speakers and hands-on experience with a variety of different horses. Those entering into this camp will need to be able to walk-trot-canter on their own. For more information regarding this camp or questions on if this is the camp for you or your child feel free to e-mail or give us a call.
For adults or parent/child combinations wishing to attend a camp or to take lessons, feel free to give us a call so we can best place you into the best learning enviornment.
All other camps are for ages 6-18 years of age. Camps will be held from 9:00am through 3:00pm. Campers should bring a bagged lunch and water bottle. Additional horse activities will be provided starting at 7:00am and after camps until 7:00pm for $10 per hour or part thereof. This can be helpful for parents that need a more flexible drop-off and pick-up schedule, as well as for children that want to be more involved with behind the scenes action around the farm and continue the fun.
Camp sizes are limited in size to ensure quality instruction, and we anticipate that they will again fill quickly, so register early to reserve the camp that best fits your needs. The cost of each camp is $325. If you register by May 1st, the cost is $300. If you are interested in both weeks ar have more than one child interested in coming, contact us for further details. Please make checks payable to David Anderson. Sorry, no refunds can be issued after May 15th.
